WIN AT ALL COST! "George Steinbrenner" class is in the eye of the beholder, Stein has more in his pinky than most will ever have.... :)

Sorry for bringing another sport into the equation lg, but if you believe in winning at all costs then why do you support the perennial loser leafs in hockey?

yea, sure they are meaningless , so i guess Arods 5 RBI'S tonight meant nothing, in a 6-1 Yankees win. yea, those useless rbi's were never a factor at all tonight.

(the J-Rump Jinx lives on!)
It's quite simple, Beav, and you should know better. RBIs is a meaningless stat (see: Carter, Joe) and totally team dependent.

Hello joelcairo,

Salary caps in hockey prevent the absurd "senseless spending ala Steinbrenner" that is present in MLB...hence a win at all costs mentality relative to player payroll cannot exist. Some NHL fans have adopted their own win at all costs mentality by having 4 favorite teams lined up (1 regular and 3 scapegoat)...lol:rolleyes:.

And before anyone brings it up, please spare me the BS about luxury tax and profit sharing that the Yankees pay.

Have fun,

Jman

PS Hey lgna, still waiting for that superior knowledge to surface on the prospects that the Yankees have in the farm system to fill 10 slots should they ever have an affliction of 10 DL players as the Red Sox do...I know I only listed 6 - sorry I forgot that Beckett has been on the DL for 6 weeks now (btw how would the Yanks be doing without CC? - not in first, thats how) and I also forgot the bullpen guys that are out. What an absurd situation for a team to endure and still be in the hunt...

ROFL! so i guess the sox (btw, the 2nd HIGHEST PAYROLL IN ALL OF MLB) spending $127 million more than the Pirates (lowest of all mlb 2010 team salaries) is in your "mind" sensible? Hey there playing by the rules as are the Yanks so yea it is ok, until you cry about others spending it then its not..such a red sox fans response. classic... save the recycled argument that the Empire spent this and that, its like a broken record from you these days. your better off ignoring.

Listen darling, now we have already had tis conversation...lol. If the empire doesn't set the bar on how much to spend there is no need for anyone to try to keep up...plleeeaaassseee!?

By your own definition and George's - the Yankees were an abject FAILURE for 8 seasons while spending some $2 billion...simple...you said it my friend.
We agree.

Still looking for some names...the superior knowledge?...

darling? i think you may be spending to much time trying to keep up with papelbon and youk, how are the riverdance lessons coming along btw?.... face it, your argument about the Yanks spending is lame, as i pointed out, the sox are 2nd at spending, just like they are always 2nd to the Yanks in most everything else,. class included.

Why would i feel a need to name names? the Yanks players apparently are not as "Soft" as the sox players this season, although when the Yanks had several players out earlier in the season because of hard effort day in day out, they hung in there quite nicely.

If you think that 27 Championships is failure, then your even more off the mark than i thought. and again, it was not my quote, i just passed it on for your enjoyment "dawling" lol.......... ewwwwww sick

Ummm, you don't have to name names, especially since you have no clue who they are...I was just giving you a shot to impress us with the superior baseball knowledge you claim to have since you went out of your way to needlessly insult me a few posts back.

LOL, you kill me. Always finding a way to twist it.

Ahhh...I feel one of those times coming on...tootles...

not twisting anything, just stating the truth like always, but sox fans sure can twist (not all), been doing it for years and years, why stop now, just like in life if it feels good, do it!

Why would i feel the urge to name names? i do not march to the beat of your drum, maybe if you went about things in a little more subtle way, you would get the results you seek

Now, can we get back to real baseball talk and not having instigator status in your posts? How about this, seen any good baseball lately? I have, the Yanks have been playing pretty good ball lately, and even the sox with numerous missing parts have been doing well... see, thats how its done my friend :)

In more of your words - you should be careful throwing those rocks from a glass house...I think I've concluded my comments.

Relative to baseball...when you so knowingly instigated this conversation by insinuating I had no knowledge, I asked you a relevant baseball question you have chosen to ignore. We can speak from the trivial and common knowledge gained in todays sports page or on ESPN or we can discuss things a little more indepth conversation (as my drummer likes to discuss and yours has no clue)...put in your terms my friend...
So lgna, while the Yankees may be playing well now...what do you ever suppose they would do if 10 of their opening day roster guys were to be on the DL? Is this the part where I wink?!

Have fun,
Jman

PS Either way, I'm out...

(some people need to use the power of ignore, this is not healthy for some) :)

PS. i knew you could not just talk baseball, just knew it! lets not make the mods life any harder on merb, ok?

Lets try again, shall we?

Tonight the current World Series Champions, Thee NY Yankees, winners of 4 in a row look for the sweep out in Oakland against the A's, meanwhile the Tampa Bay Rays (also winners of four in a row) look for the sweep of the red sox who have lost 4 in a row, down in Tampa. Seems the Rays are back on track after a couple weeks of sub par play, but are peaking again during the hot days of summer, and the sox are stumbling just a bit, but as can be expected when they have alot of regulars out due to injury, and a bunch of call up's from Pawtucket, this can happen.

kinda obvious eh? i dont think the mods will let it go to far in here tho, at least i hope not, this is a baseball thread, and with that, back to baseball, Doc, will your Jays get it going again after the allstar break? love to see them get hot and put some pressure on the Rays and sox.

I just voted to "Send Swish" and Joey Votto to the All Star game. There is no way either of these two guys should be watching. You can vote to Send Swish here:

Hello EB,

Well of course I respectfully disagree with you and have cast my vote numerous times for Kevin Youkilis who by stats and overall importance to his team is a much more suitable All Star candidate.

Have fun,

Jman

PS Oh and lgna69xxx...what I believe I would detest even more as a moderator (if I were one) is someone telling me how to do my job when that same someone has spent his whole merb life doing things far worse things than those he is pointing out. And you continue to do so leveling the insults with small letters and innuendos.
You mention truth in one of your posts yet your actions show you to be highly hypocritical.
Please don't take the mods to be fools...they are very intelligent people. You hypocrisy, actions and words are nothing other than a flagrant show of your disrespect for them. IMHO your actions insult the intelligence of all here, members and mods alike.
Have a great day.

I'll definitely vote for Torontonian Joey Votto, but the Yankees are already stacked with all-stars so i can't vote for Swisher. He's on the wrong team to be voted into the all-star game. I think it's a calamity that Votto hasn't already made it. He & Morneau, another Canadian, were both leading their respective leagues in hitting the last time i checked. Jose Bautista also should have made it instead of Vernon Wells.

I agree with both of you guys on Votto...it would be a real shame if he did not get voted in...he got my votes...

LOL,

No surprise at all. You're such a flagrant HOMER. I just checked the stats of Youkilis and Swisher as well as their biographies. Swisher is doing well, but Youkilis is beating him, often markedly in every single category and Youk leads the league in runs with 66. Youk may be the toughest out in baseball as he wears out pitchers nerves by continually driving up their pitch counts. Youk can play both infield corners extremely well as has a gold glove...not to mention that though he was trained as a third baseman "Kevin Youkilis strung together 135 errorless games and 1,094 errorless innings while playing, perhaps, the American League's most aggressive first base in 2007."

Looking at the playoff stats of Swisher and Youkilis to see indications of how each player is doing against the best, as they would in the All-Star Game, Youkilis is absolutely kicking the living crap out of Swisher. In SLG and OPS in the categories of Total Playoff Appearances, ALDS, ACLS, WS respectively...

Youkilis' numbers: SLG - .568, .318, .776, .444; OPS - .944, .547, 1.253, .861.
Swisher's numbers: SLG - .254, .308, .133, .400; OPS - .572, .608, .467, .716.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/swishni01.shtml
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/y/youklke01.shtml

Don't forget Youkilis is making his accomplishments this year surrounded by a patchwork offense, not three reasonably healthy $20 million dollar hitters and Cano.

We all know you're too much of a HOMER to have the courage to vote the best player in, especially when it means a Red Sox over a Yankee; but one might hope that since this game counts toward the World Series home field advantage you might find the guts to give the AL a better chance or at least to see a better game. Obviously NOT. No matter how Swisher may do if he got in, he is the undeniable poorer choice. There is no way you can justify your vote unless there is a position need and that is not the situation.

And, thanks for the link. I voted for Youkilis and Votto.

Embarrassing,

Merlot
