This was the Bitchslap heard around red sox nation today. Beltre gave theo and the red sox the middle finger. Beltre a Bluy Jay you say Doc? That would be sweet and could see it becoming a reality!

Beltre tells the Red Sox to SUCK IT !!

BOSTON -- Adrian Beltre has declined a $10 million player option that would have kept him with the Boston Red Sox next year.

The third baseman will get a $1 million buyout and becomes a free agent after just one season with the Red Sox.

The 31-year-old Beltre led the team with a .321 batting average and a career-high 49 doubles in 154 games. He hit 28 homers and tied David Ortiz for the team lead with 102 RBIs. The option increased from $5 million to $10 million in his last game because he passed the 640 plate appearances.

Boston signed him as a free agent after he hit .265 with eight homers and 44 RBIs with Seattle in 2009.

The Red Sox must decide by Thursday whether to exercise Ortiz's $12.5 million club option.

(Maybe those rumors of Beltre signing with the Blue Jays might come true after all....)

No big deal if he walks, the Red Sox will just replace him with someone using the old reliable "Sabremetrics", the legendary system that's followed by all of 3 people in the whole wide world(Bill James,Theo Epstein and rumpleforskin).:)

Ortiz will have his contract picked up, he has to, you have nothing left for rbi men, besides youkilis. Vlady would be a great pickup for the red sox, lets hope theo doesnt get a stroke of "genius" and grab him. Vlady playing 81 games in "that" ballpark would hit alot of baseballs out or off that high green wall in left.

Even though it's not likely to happen, the Blue Jays could turn to Vlad Guerrero as the team's new DH if they decide to move Adam Lind to 1st base. That is, of course, that they decide to say 'no' to Manny Ramirez, who dearly would love to play for John Farrell. However, Scott Boras is his agent & he has a lot of baggage.....

You do realize why he declined his player option Doc, don't you? He'd be a bigger fool than a couple of posters in this thread (they know who they are I'm sure!) if he accepted it. You, me and anyone with half a brain would have done the exact same thing. However, to say he told the Sox to SUCK IT is an asinine statement.

I'm guessing he'll get a 4 year deal for a team somewhere in the $60-70M range.

You wouldn't be refering to the moron who suggested above that the Sox sign both Guerrero and Ortiz? While I realize that while the Yankees have a DH at catcher, a DH at third, a DH at short, a DH in right field and a DH at DH, some teams realize that you don't need more than one DH.

It's official, the Yankees just concluded two days of meetings and have targeted Cliff Lee, Carl Crawford as top priorities, let the signings begin(Start date is this Sunday).

Have you ever met a big name free agent that you DIDN'T like:rolleyes::confused:?

I'm thinking that would be the one...he hasn't met a free agent he doesn't like either...DoH!!!

While stroking your keyboard genius, you may want to check some stats, specifically the splits...07-09 Vlad is hitting .246 at Fenway with 0 dingers, 3 RBI and 2 doubles...lifetime is not much better. Can you say "declining performance"? After all it is something Yankee fans should be well in touch with...

I defer the rest of my commentary to prior comments by Rumples.

ManRam is going to the Bronx...perfect fit! Not to mention a perfect way and place for such a class "team" player to finish his career...besides I hear the Yankees need a DH...

Besides...I want to see someone get him to clip the dreads...White Sox had a policy and they couldn't get him to do it...I am sure Girardi can handle the ManRam.

Lots of them, John Lackey, Mike Cameron, Daisuke Matsuzaka to name a few, meanwhile the Red Sox picked up the option on Oritz, anybody know what his RISP was in 2010?.

I seem to remember you and the Yankees being interested in 2 of the 3 aforementioned names...and I never considered Cameron a 'big name". Now Javier Vazquez, he was on your list wasn't he?

Do you mean BA with RISP? (.298) Or SLG with RISP (.571) or OPS with RISP (.980)...ahh hell, go look yourself...
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=3748

Do you even know what RISP is? I only ask because the way you put it in the question, well...it makes no sense:confused:.

Have fun,

Jman

PS In case you were wondering...ARod's numbers are here...who do you think is getting more BANG for the buck?

It was a legitimate question which some of us like to ask:rolleyes:.

BTW, it's a good thing you changed your Avatar, your previous one was in direct violation of the Mods warning for this thread,(suspension was warranted if you ask me).

Well if you were my apologies as a gentleman. But, I'm thinking likely not, especially since any commentary you usually make is riddled with sarcasm and bait...particularly towards Red Sox fans.

I changed the avatar because BB season was over. I may bring it back. Mods are aware of it and have seen it in threads and direct communications for years now. They don't seem offended. BTW, do tell exactly which rule was it in violation of...I am simply expressing my opinion of two teams and it is a direct commentary on the heated rivalry.

I can always add it to my signature...lol.

Have fun,

Gordon Edes said:
Bill James, the legendary statistical analyst and Red Sox consultant, pretty much hit the mark with David Ortiz last November when he predicted Big Papi’s performance in the 2010 Bill James Handbook. Ortiz hit .270 with 32 home runs, 102 RBIs and a .529 slugging percentage; James had projected .264, 29, 99 and a .519 slugging percentage.

So with the Sox deciding Thursday to exercise the $12.5 million option on Ortiz’s contract for 2011, what is James projecting for Ortiz next season?

Well, the 2011 handbook is fresh off the presses, and here’s the Ortiz forecast:

.261, 33 HR, 91 RBIs, .366 .OBP, .509 .SGP, .875 .OPS.
Seems like exercising Papi's option was a no-brainer. If the Sox can sign someone like Bill Hall to DH against tough lefties, Papi's number will be even better.

BTW, the Bill James to whom Edes refers is the same Bill James who helped the Sox build two World Championships in the last seven years, allowing the Sox to become and remain the only team in baseball to win two (count 'em, 2) titles in the 21st century. Thanks, Bill.

Yes, Papi's option was a forgone conclusion...

Here's a consideration...Sox...priority 1 is getting Martinez inked which solidifies C for now and DH in the future. Then why not look at a guy like Aubrey Huff to play 1B...he will sign for millions less than Beltre and has some years left...

If I were the Yankees I would sign Jeter to be player/coach, make Girardi bench coach or even bat boy, go after Beltre and move Arod to DH. Oh yeah, I'd get rid of Posada and find a back up catcher for a whole lot less...

Just thinking out loud - objectively...lol.

Have fun,

Papi was a no brainer because after him all you have for power is a injury prone catcher and a injury prone bald first baseman turned third baseman since theo was to cheap and dense to sign Beltre

2.No need for thanking Bill J. Instead thank Roids and Money. It took 86 years to win a championship, and you had the second highest payroll and juice on your side (as JoeT tells me) :) so in essence you didnt win anything, you bought your way to a couple titles all the while sipping on some fresh squeezed OJ.

Again with the snipes, nasty comments and taunting rhetoric...didn't you learn from the last time you had us shut down...?!

Rumples and I were having a civil conversation. At one point .t even half joined in...comon now! Oh and except for the couple part...I suppose you could say that is a very accurate description of the Yankees performance in the new century.

BTW, its absolutely laughable everytime a Yankees fan says..."you had the SECOND highest payroll" in MLB...LOL. I mean dude, why bother?

Have fun,

Jman
