not as well as Dent's HISTORIC blast! We could afford to let you have one for as many times as we have TOOK away from you, wouldnt you agree? And you REALLY dont wanna start talking about failure concerning the Yanks and Sox do you? really?

Hmmm,

I'm sure you and Joe.t remember this. Yankee "Pride" in the trash.

Not just a "dent", but an abyss of failure.

You got the wrong idiot manager and the wrong ..ez. That would be Zimmer, without whom there would have been no need of a playoff. And the ...ez would be Torrez.

EZ fellas...I think you guys are talking about 2 different games here. Rumples is in 1978 and Merlot is in 2003. Besides...do the math...Iggy is way too young to remember that far back in his childhood to even recall the Bucky Dent hit...;)...

And Merlot...you need to give him a little more credit than that...of course he is not foolish enough to try and compare either one of those Yankee wins with the greatest come back...I mean collapse(Yankee collapse) in all of sports history.

Have fun,

Jman

PS Congrats to the city of Boston and its residents for making Forbes list of the top 10 most relaxed American cities...coming in at #3.

Hey Iggy,

Try to be credible just once in your life. You are comparing 1 hit to win the game...to the Sox having to dig out of a hole of 3 games to 0 right after getting beat at home 19-8...having to do all of that against the "greatest reliever of all time" (Rivera)...a $200 million plus team...and having to do it with the last 2 games in Yankee Stadium against hostile fans the city had to call in riot police in to control in game 6. One hit to break a tie against a four games of sudden death. You can't be that pinstripe drunk...or can you.

Obviously I answered my own question.

WELLDUH.jpg

Even your own city newspaper calls the 2004 Yankee choke..."THE WORST POSTSEASON COLLAPSE IN BASEBALL HISTORY." Deal with it.

DUH!

You're right. Dent was 1978.

Well to put it in moderistic terms...the 1978 and 2003 lost games were failures.

However...this...

was undeniably, and without a doubt...
an EPIC FAIL ! ! !

And we all know nothing trumps (pun intended since he is a Yankee fan) an EPIC FAIL...

Well, the Gold Glove announcements were made today and again the results were a mockery for baseball. Derek "past a diving" Jeter garnered his 5th straight Glove while Cano snagged one at 2nd base and Texeira repeated at 1st base. Only one missing was ARod's which I'm surprised the buffoons didn't just give to him anyway. Here's a great ESPN article about the farce that is the Rawlings Golden Glove Awards. I love the 2nd line of the article! Hahaha, so f'n true!

"I have to get this out of the way ... Yes, Derek Jeter has just won another Gold Glove.

It's his fifth, which means he's now won at least four more Gold Gloves than he's deserved. By any stretch of the fever-crazed imagination."

Yep, 3 Yankees and one soon to be Yankee(Crawford) according to Ken Rosenthal win the Gold Glove and not even a Red Sox in sight, I think that it's safe to say that this line up will save the Yankees a ton of runs in 2011, I'm sure that Kenny Rosenthal would agree.

I'm hearing within 2 weeks, unless he decides to listen to that bitch wife of his, in that case the Yankees do have a plan B(Greinke), either way the Yankees will come out way ahead.

Unfortunately, as Neyer points out, even the Yankee brass isn't fooled by Jeter's Gold Gloves."Just to give you an idea ... Every year, John Dewan and Baseball Info Solutions conduct their own process, the Fielding Bible Awards. There are 10 "voters" (with two of the individual voters actually amalgams, of video scouts and fans). Some of the voters are looking at the same Baseball Info Solutions numbers; I do, and I suspect that John Dewan does. But Peter Gammons votes, and he's got his own sources. Bill James votes, and he's got his own universe. Hal Richman votes, and he's got his own institution. Et cetera.

[+] EnlargeDerek Jeter
Anthony J. Causi/Icon SMIDerek Jeter won another Gold Glove, but it doesn't appear to be based on his defensive play.
The voting doesn't differentiate the leagues. Each voter is required to rank 10 shortstops. This year, 20 shortstops received at least one point in the voting.

Jeter wasn't one of them. Not a single voter thought that Jeter was even the 10th-best shortstop in the major leagues.

Of course, it's not just us. Nobody who really follows baseball believes that Jeter is an outstanding defensive player. The Yankees, who see him every day, don't believe that. The writers who cover the Yankees every day don't believe that. Frankly, I'm not sure the managers and the coaches who actually voted for Jeter believe that. "

According to BP, Jeter cost the Yankees 39 runs between 2007-2009, when his defense is compared with that of an average fielder. That translates to about 5 games.

The longer the Yankees want to put Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter at shortstop, the better.

The Fielding Bible gives out award annually to the top defenders at each position in MLB, combined NL and AL. There are 10 panelists including Bill James, Hal Richman (inventor of Strat-O-Matic Baseball), Peter Gammons, Rob Neyer, and several scouts from Baseball Info Solutions Video Scouts. Each voter lists the top 10 at each position, 10 points awarded for a first place vote, 9 for a second, and so on. Here is this years voting for shortstops:

Troy Tulowitzki - 97 points
Brendan Ryan - 81
Alexei Ramirez - 69
Yunel Escobar - 45
Jack Wilson - 39
Elvis Andrus - 39
Cliff Pennington - 37
Alex Gonzalez - 36
Jimmy Rollins - 28
Cesar Izturis - 15
Alcides Escobar - 14
Rafael Furcal - 9
Ramon Santiago - 8
Jason Bartlett - 8
Asdrubal Cabrera - 8
Erick Aybar - 6
JJ Hardy - 5
Marco Scutaro - 3
Orlando Cabrera - 1
Wilson Valdez - 1

Not one of the expert panelists thought Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter was among the top 10 defensive shortstops in baseball.

Hello Rumples,

You know I always hear and most of us do believe what a "class" guy Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter is...the Bob Sheppard thing (funeral) aside, of course. Anyway...don't you think it would be a "class" thing to do if Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter would say...geez, I really don't deserve this award...therefor I refuse to accept and you should consider giving the GG to another AL SS who is much more deserving.

Just a thought...

Disgusted,

Jman

PS And before the pinstripe elitists stand up and get all offended...I am speaking objectively here...review Rumples list yourself and tell me why a guy like Alexei Ramirez, Yunel Escobar or Elvis Andrus didn't deserve this GG more than Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter?

Ode to Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter...

Is Derek Jeter worthy of Gold Glove?
11/10/10 New Haven Register

NEW YORK (AP) — Ichiro Suzuki won his 10th straight Gold Glove for a full season of fielding excellence. Mark Buehrle won again, perhaps clinching his spot with an acrobatic play on opening day.

Derek Jeter, well, his selection is likely to set off another loud round of dispute over whether the award is relevant anymore.

Rawlings announced the American League honors Tuesday. Managers and coaches vote for players in their leagues and can’t pick players on their own teams.

Also chosen were first baseman Mark Teixeira and second baseman Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees; third baseman Evan Longoria and outfielder Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Rays; Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer and Seattle outfielder Franklin Gutierrez.

The NL awards will be announced Wednesday.

Suzuki tied the AL record for Gold Gloves by an outfielder shared by Ken Griffey Jr. and Al Kaline. The Seattle right fielder has won every year he’s been in the big leagues.

The overall record for outfielders is held by Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente with 12 each. The awards started in 1957, so there’s no telling how many Mays, Clemente or others might have won before then. Angels outfielder Torii Hunter’s streak of nine in a row ended this season.

Jeter won for the fifth time at shortstop — at 36, the New York Yankees captain is the oldest AL shortstop to win the Gold Glove since Luis Aparicio was the same age in 1970. Only Ozzie Smith, Omar Vizquel, Aparicio and Mark Belanger have won more total Gold Gloves at shortstop than Jeter.

"It is a tremendous honor to receive the Gold Glove award, especially since this recognition comes from managers and coaches for whom I have a great deal of respect. It is particularly gratifying to be recognized for defense, as it is something I take a lot of pride in and am constantly working to improve," Jeter said in a statement.

Jeter was charged with just six errors and had a career-high .989 fielding percentage, both best among full-time AL shortstops.

But modern fielding charts and rankings consistently put Jeter in the bottom half of their ratings. Two websites that study glovework — www.fangraphs.com with its Ultimate Zone Rating and www.fieldingbible.com — listed Chicago’s Alexei Ramirez as the top-fielding AL shortstop with Jeter nowhere close to even middle-of-the-pack status.

Ramirez made 20 errors and had a .974 fielding percentage.

"I think a lot of errors he got were plays that others wouldn’t have gotten to," Buehrle said on a conference call. "I think he was deserving."

"I don’t see Derek play every day," he said. "I think there are a lot of guys who could’ve won it."

Jeter’s range seemed to noticeably decline — he’s never been the best at getting to balls up the middle. This season, it seemed more grounders into the hole got through, too, with third baseman Alex Rodriguez ranging less and less to his left.

For years, some fans have viewed the Gold Gloves as mostly a popularity contest, even suggesting that a player’s performance at the plate helped draw extra attention to his glove. Jeter’s wins have often served as a lightning rod for that debate.

Serious questions about the Gold Gloves have stirred for more than a decade, growing ever since Rafael Palmeiro won the award at first base in 1999. He played there only 28 games for Texas that season, spending most of the year as a designated hitter.

Buehrle was an easy choice for his second Gold Glove — he became the first pitcher with multiple no-hitters and Gold Gloves on his resume. He had a 1.000 fielding percentage in 50 chances this year and led major league pitchers with a career-high 11 pickoffs.

The lefty was the leading candidate from Day One, with his play in a 6-0 win over Cleveland. Buehrle stuck out his leg and deflected Lou Marson’s hard one-hopper into foul territory beyond the first-base line, scrambled off the mound and used his glove to flip the ball between his legs to get the out.

"I had people saying all year that the one play won it," Buehrle said.

Gutierrez, who plays center field, Crawford and Cano also won for the first time. Crawford became a free agent when the season ended and is unlikely to re-sign with Tampa Bay.

Teixeira became a four-time winner, Mauer won his third Gold Glove and Longoria earned his second.

Gutierrez and Suzuki each receive $50,000 bonuses. Buehrle, Crawford, Longoria and Mauer get $25,000 apiece.

I think Mark Buehrle summed up the ineptness that won Jeter the award best when commenting on Alexi Ramirez...
"I think a lot of errors he got were plays that others (insert Derek "Past a Diving" Jeter) wouldn’t have gotten to," Buehrle said on a conference call. "I think he was deserving."
THAT statement says it all...in other words, dive and make it look good...but never touch the ball, hence never get charged with an error and you win a GG.

Sad commentary...

Is Cliff Lee Really Worth The Cost

Hello all,

I heard this afternoon that the Red Sox are attempting to deal Dice-K to the Cubs for Fukudome (barely have heard the name) who also has a no trade clause. If this unlikely deal goes through it would put the Sox back in the possible Cliff Lee hunt.

This scenario got me wondering if Cliff Lee is really worth it? That's a question, not a statement. Sure he can be lights out frequently enough, but he actually was just a 12-9. Yeah, he also had a 3.18 ERA and 185 strikeouts with just 18 walks. Excellent it seems, but still just 12-9. That's pretty mediocre. In fact he's had just two truly impressive seasons, 2005 (18-5), 2008 (22-3).

The Yankees are almost certain to bid a minimum of 5 years at at least $20-25 million per year. Lee was sensational before the World Series where he lost both games...one where he totally blew it. He's 32 years old and he's been passed between four teams in just two years. Something about that smells. Is the type of contract likely to be given him really worth it over it's length??? I might go for Greinke before Lee?

Okay boys, maybe all of you disagree...lol.

Doubtful,

Merlot

Have you learned anything over these years joe? Of all the people that should know better than to count their chickens before they have hatched, it's you my friend. If the Yankees really had half a clue they would pass on the aging Lee and focus on the younger Greinke but we all know that the Yankee front office aren't the brightest bunch, that's obvious by the ridiculously stupid contact Jeter is going to get.
