I was quite shocked by the fact Bruins only take 2mn of penalties in the regular time.

The day the LNH will realize that hockey fan are not just a bunch of white rednecks that only love fight and tought game and hate the rare black players, they will probably do what have be done in the others sports : protect players health, try to avoid fights that show an awful exemple to the children about the way they should resolve a dispute, try to avoid black players bashing and favor fast talented and technical game and players...

In North America fans like violent sports which is why football and hockey are so popular here but not as much in Europe. If you take the violence out of these sports they will become less popular. We have seen a movement towards safety in both the NFL and NHL with the enactment of various controversial rules. Over the course of time, these sports will lose popularity and baseball and basketball will become more popular in comparison to football and hockey.

We won the first battle but the war is not over. Damn Price was awesome and i think Patrick must have sent his post to boston to help him a bit :p But in any case what matters is the W against the evil empire. Honestly im glad they won over a penalty, because it was ridiculous how the officials let everything go in the game. I guess this is hockey playoff, unless its right in your face obvious, they let it go... Its true that the canadiens got hammered and bounce everywhere, but well.. thats the bruins... dirty playing and hitting... thats it, we have to deal with it.

That serie is gonna be tough but we must prevail... especially after loosing 2 in the last couple years.

Guys,

As for the racism expressed towards P.K. Subban on social media, this is shameful.

It's inexcusable. If it was a Red Sox game they would be kicked out and banned. As much as I hate PK, we know when he's not acting stupid that he's a very good player real Bruins fans would take if available. Racists went over the top. They represent Racists, not Boston or any other city.

the bruins... dirty playing and hitting... thats it, we have to deal with it.

Physical hard play is not "dirty". Dirty play is dirty. Dare to know the difference and deal with an asset of the game; don't condemn something you'd approve if your team played this style of game.

Unlike EB's statement, I don't feel violence per se is the attraction. It's the shows of guts, physical strength, sacrificing yourself to put out against a tough challenge, taking on an opponent decisively.

Cheers,

Merlot

The hit that Patrice Bergeron did was dirty... a shame especially since he is one of the few in that team i tough where legit good players.... It may have been the hip, but this play was dangerous as shit in the legs and such. Thats what i mean by dirty play.

As for hitting, im not against hit, but when all you do is try to decapitate your oponnent, it shows a lack of skill in other departements.

You are correct about football, but it's obvious since the sport isn't being played much over there. But there is quite a following in England and maybe believe that the next expansion will see an NFL football team winding up in London, England.

As for hockey, you are incorrect. Hockey is as popular in Europe as it is in the States, if not more. Many junior hockey/college stars wind up playing in Europe if they can't make it in the North American pro leagues. Many former NHL players end up playing in Europe if they can't find employment in North America or if they get offered better wages in Europe.

I have buddies who've played in France, Switzerland, Poland, Germany and Italy. They even play hockey in Japan now. The KHL, which is a Russian-based professional league, is only rivaled by the NHL. One of the biggest stars in the NHL, Ilya Kovalchuk, now plays there, having walked away from the New Jersey Devils. Jaromir Jagr played there for several seasons before coming back to the NHL.

One of my buddies who played for several NHL teams ended his career in England. Marty McSorley also ended his playing career in an english hockey league.

Hockey is extremely popular throughout Europe & Scandinavia. Many of today's top players come from countries such as Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden & even Denmark.

An NFL team in london? seem like a long flight for playing matches... I don't see a team of europe joining anything in North America really...

But yeah europe got a good caliber of hockey too.

As for the rangers/penguins... Santa Fleury is helping a bit it seem... Seriously poor fleury, he get scored on whacky shots honestly he can be glad to have such a huge attack in front if him, would he play for the wild or another team like that he wouldn't even make the playoff...

Scandinavia is in Europe.

Hockey is quite popular in Scandinavia (in Russia too) but not in the rest of Europe. Nothing compare to North America... They follow their national team during the OG, but not their national championship, that's the big difference...

If you look at Fleury's stats the last 4 seasons they have been remarkably consistent: GAA between 2.32 and 2.39; Save % between .913 and .918. He is an OK goalie but the problem is that when you are selected as the #1 overall pick in the NHL draft, OK is not good enough. Rick DiPietro was also selected #1 overall as a goalie and he is not even in the NHL any more. So you have two goalies picked as overall #1 picks and neither one is really a star player.................

Lundqvist saved .944% of shots put on him while Fleury only saved .889%. Lundqvist wins the battle of the goalies. This is why Lundqvist has been called King, and Fleury has been called Santa.

Yes and had Subban or any other Habs player made the same hip check you'd be cheering like mad from your couch. Stop whining and being a hypocrite Mike, that was a clean hip check!!!

Boston was by far the better team out there. They had over 100 total shots at the net, while the habs only had under 60 total shots. Price kept the habs in the game and also relied quite a bit on lady luck. Boston missed a lot of chances that may have been due to them being a bit rusty from the layoff.

The difference was that Montreal capitalized on their opportunities, especially on the powerplay. Had the Bruins stayed out of the penalty box, they would have won the game.

As for the racism expressed towards P.K. Subban on social media, this is shameful. It seems like those racist idots ignored the fact that Jarome Iginla is black & that Malcolm Suban (PK's brother) plays for the Bruins' farm team. However, every city has its share of racists & bigots who enjoy hurling racist epithets while hiding behind a keyboard. And yes, even teams from cities such as Montreal and Toronto have them. Donald Sterling wannabes are seemingly rampant everywhere (as long as they can hide unanimously behind a keyboard) and there has been an air of racism/bigotry heating up in America ever since the day John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate & Barak Obama was announced as a presidential candidate. Sorry for bring up politics, but i'm simply stating facts.

It's also quite obvious that there'd be 29 other NHL teams lining up to sign P.K. Subban should he every become a free agent. The large majority of Bruins fans do realize that they were beaten by his talent alone & his skin color had nothing to do about it. Off to game 2!

All excellent points Doc! Bravo for your insightful unbiased comments!

The Europeans like soccer which is an artistic sport. They don't like violence. North American fans like violent sports. This is why hockey is more popular here than over there.

A couple of years ago in a poll, hockey ranked behind bowling & indoor football in the US. It also ranks behind the NFL, MLB, NBA & NASCAR. Indeed, hockey ranks behind soccer in Europe. But after soccer, hockey is the most popular sport in Europe and it's popularity is spread out throughout the continent. Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, France, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Kazakstan, Germany, Austria & Italy. The great Jacques Lemaire built up a resume coaching in Switzerland before he joined the NHL as a coach (Montreal, New Jersey and Minnesota). Iron Mike Keenan is currently coaching in the KHL (in Russia) and his team is currently playing in the league finals.

Thus, hockey is extremely big in Europe. Much bigger than it is in the States, who prefer bowling & indoor football to hockey.

Not at all Doc, believe me, Hockey is far far far far far behind Tennis, rugby, athletism, cycling, Formula 1, basketball...

One of the reason is probably that LNH attract all the good european players, so there is no real interest to watch national championship (except for the russian maybe..). And if they want to follow LNH, they have to watch it untill 4am..

Stop whining guys....this is called hockey that is why this it is a physical sport...if you can't take it go watch ballet or the Nutcracker...

And your cuties and so called goons keep ending up at the Montreal General Hospital....

Lol... Typical redneck fan post. Exactly the kind of reactions we were talking about. But knowing you Sharkman, I'm sure you weren't serious and made this post to illustrate what we were saying... ;)

But yes some fans really think like that. LIke if the fact they like violence in sport was a proof of their masculinity, which is childish...

Yes Price was criticized when he wasn't good and is liked now that he is good... Sportman life... Nothing to whine about...

When you have 24 Stanley Cup, you are demanding with your players and that's the bestway to make them improve (Price is a good exemple).
