Agree some with you but not all....... Oui, love to see some teams fold and get the NHL down to about 28 teams, but no lower than 25. Empty arenas???? why? so the game can really be hurt? no way!

As for myself and many other people I know we will not be going to any games this year, fuck the billionaires and millionaires. Hopefully the teams that were about to fold actually do and we lose 5 to 7 teams and then all the hack players lose their jobs and we can watch good hockey again with good talent. To me it would be great to see empty arenas. Spoiled bastards.

Hey guys I need your advice. I have never been to an NHL game in Montreal and wondering what I can expect to pay for tickets. Are there scalpers that are reasonable and have a bit of mercy? Just wondering if $100 will get me a decent seat. What do you think?

Beaver, there are several ways in purchasing a good (and decently priced) ticket for a hockey game in Mtl:

-purchase one online on the day they go on sale.

-wait within a half hour from game-time, then call the scalpers or take a walk near the Bell Center. The prices will have dropped considerably. Even better, wait until the game starts or is about to start, and they'll be begging you to take their ticket.

-check sites like Kijijii, CL & Annonces123. Great deals can be had on those sites. I found this out last season and began to feel like an idiot for buying tickets on the day they came out when i wasn't even sure i could attend the games. There are always many good tickets being sold on those sites by regular fans (and of course, the fuck#$# scalpers) who can't go to the games & simply want to find a buyer for their ticket(s). I swore then that i'd never again purchase a ticket in advance.

Luongo. I don't want that big overpaid stiff with the Leafs. He's not much better than what they already have, and as soon as he'll let in one of his usual soft goals, the fans will be booing him & then will boo Brian Burke for bringing this bum to Toronto.

Last rumour i heard what that they might be shipping Tyler Bozak & Nazem Kadri to Vancouver for this big stiff. I really hope this is just a rumour.

If the Leafs really want him, they should wait until next year after Vancouver has likely dropped him due to the amnesty clause which will go in effect once this season ends.

Luongo is old, he's not as good as he once was, and he's not even the top goaltender on his current team. His contract is one of the worse in the history of all sports (other than Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees) and the Leafs will be stuck with his contract for years to come. If they do trade for him & he's a huge flop, what do they do next season? Use one of their amnesty clauses and release him (along with Mike Komisarek)? You simply don't sell your future for an aging goaltender like Luongo, with his best years behind him & a huge contract that can cripple any organization's salary scale.

I'm not even sure i'd take him for nothing, to tell you the truth.

One of my buddies appeared on tv yesterday to speak about the end of the lock-out and how the fans will react. He wanted to have my opinion before his interview.

I told him that at the present time, my interest in NHL hockey was minimal. I simply found other things that interested me during the lock-out. To be honest, i no longer cared if there was a season or not. The Leafs and the Habs will likely suck the joint once again, and why should i care about a season when i expect my team to be embarrassed again?

I'm actually looking forward to the off-season, starting with the upcoming NHL entry draft at the end of June.

During the past few months, i began to look at the bright side of the lock-out: I saved tons of $$$. Usually by this time, i would have travelled to the Air Canada Center & to the Bell Center to watch a few games. I might even have attended a couple of games at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa & then head to Gatineau to blow $$ on strippers. I realized that i actually appreciated the lock-out!!!!

I also realized how crazy i had been in the past to blow $200-300 on a ticket for a game that was being shown on television. For that kind of money, i could see an expensive Eleganza girl (Kelli or Summer) and even have enough money for the extras!!! :eyebrows:

Spending that kind of money just to watch a hockey game in person, i've realized, was just plain NUTS !!!!

I told my friend that my interest in NHL hockey might return once the season starts. Who knows. Fucking greedy bastards.....all of them!!!

p.s. I'm not buying another single NHL jersey, cap or jacket from those greedy NHL owners!

Look behind you.
And since I am an Oiler fan..... " GO OILERS GO " Maybe they can pull off a 48 game season and make the playoffs. Then again maybe they will be one of the teams that folds, heard rumours they might move to Seattle if a new arena is not built.

During the Marlies/Bulldogs broadcast earlier on TVA Sports, Yvon Pedneault claimed that a trade had been completed where the Leafs would get Roberto Luongo for Tyler Bozak, Matt Frattin & a 2nd-round pick. He later mentionned that Vancouver had agreed to paying part of Luongo's salary & that the trade would be made official later this week once the new CBA would be ratified by all parties.

Personally, i hope that the Leafs don't lose Frattin. However, if it is true that Vancouver picks up a good part of Luongo's contract, then it may not be such a bad deal for the Leafs considering his cap-hit isn't that big. But there aren't that many teams who could accomodate Luongo's contract and maybe Toronto could play the waiting game and force Vancouver into either buying out Luongo next season or desperately find a team to trade him to once the salary caps go down.

I still don't think he's worth mortgaging the future. Luongo may be a slight improvement between the pipes, but the Leafs are a long way to contending for the Cup and it won't happen if they trade the likes of Tyler Bozak, Matt Frattin or Nazem Kadri for Luongo. Heck, draft a goalie in the first-round if you really want an upgrade over the goalies you already have!

p.s. Just heard that the Leafs will open the season in Montreal on Saturday January 19th.

All I can remember about Luongo is that a couple years ago against the Boston Bruins in the finals he sucked moose balls.

Meanwhile with the Devils losing Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk and the Rangers adding Rick Nash to address their offensive issues, I would think that the Rangers are the favorite in the East and the Kings, based on how they played in the playoffs practically coasting to the Stanley Cup. should be the favorites in the west. Is this how the experts are seeing things or should other teams be viewed as the favorites?

How does that compare to hippo balls, Beav? Better? Worse? Same?

It's pretty close, both are a very high level of sucking, but hippo balls is a higher level. Actually, the highest.
OK, so sucking hippo balls is reserved for that which really, really sucks, both in terms of intensity of sucking as well as longevity of sucking. For example, the Toronto Maple Leafs would qualify under the "hippo balls" sucking flag?

Not sure I know enough about their history to say, but possibly. Player-wise, I would say Scott Gomez has sucked Hippo balls since being awarded a huge contract originally by the Rangers and then Montreal, not sure if they picked up his contract. He is in the hockey minor leagues being paid a huge sum of money, a la Kei Igawa of the Yankees.

Scott Gomez is NOT in the minor leagues. Montreal had no choice but to pick up his contract when they obtained him in a trade 3 years ago. However, he's not the only bad contract they have. For example, had they been granted permission to remove two bad contracts from their roster this season, they possibly would have got rid of Tomas Kaberle & Rene Bourque's.

For the 2012-13 season, Gomez' cap hit went down by $2 million as compared to last season's, and next season (his final one), it'll go down another million. Bourque has another 4 years left, while Kaberle has another 2 years & his cap hit will be pretty close to Gomez' next season. As i mentionned, next season will be Gomez' final contract year, so it would make more sense getting rid of Bourque & Kaberle's long-term contracts.

On another note, Luongo to Toronto might not be a done-deal. There is a new clause in the new contract which states that if a player retires prior to the end of his contract, his original team (the one he originally signed the contract with) and the team he's traded to will face considerable fines. Considering he's 33 years old and still has 10 years left to go on his contract, it's very doubtful he'll finish his contract. This should scare away many teams interested in obtaining such players whose contracts were set-up with the lone intention to circumvent the cap. Personally, i wouldn't spend too much of my own talent in order to obtain such a player.

EB, Kovalchuk still might return to New Jersey this season. I believe rumours about him staying in the KHL is purely speculation.

Depending on how much Vancity is paying towards his contract is whether the deal is good for both. I assume they will be paying quite a bit if the return includes Frattin who could turn into a stud for them however he is coming off a knee injury (it was the knee right?) and when he returned was on fire for the Marlies but has sence cooled off and has not played many games in the NHL yet and is not a 18 yr old highly touted prospect. Luongo instantly gives the Leafs a shot to make the playoffs and beyond and with Carlyles defensive game it will only help Lou. He has a good 4-5 years left in him as many goalies these days seem to play better with age as long as they stay in top shape, as Roberto always does..... again depending on the terms of the deal, will depend if it is a good deal for the Leafs and Vancity if rumours are true at all.

Doc, see you in Montreal Jan 19th? You can get a tic outside the bell for $50 at the start of the 3rd periode, i will have a $20 molson waiting for you :eyebrows:

Iggy,

The NHL has not yet released the schedule. There are no games scheduled at this time, period. It is my understanding the schedule may be approved and released in the next few days.

Bye Bye Burkie

On behalf of all Leaf haters I would like to thank Brian Burke for his 4 years of invaluable service in maintaining the "high standards" of this "glorious franchise" and for all his hard work in ensuring the tradition will go on for years to come. :D

PS. I wonder if the Bruins will let him open a hot dog stand at TD Gardens in recognition of his help in winning the cup two years ago.
