Yea, when i read that earlier today i was like... "Must be a typo" but it wasnt, Vokoun must of got scared he wouldnt land a starting job somewhere so he settled. He is worth double what he got.

The Connolly deal is a risk, but look at it this way, the Leafs gave up ZERO assets, and only money to get him, which they have a plethora of. He was also the best centre available after Richards. If he gets injured, it doesnt count against the cap space for the time he is out. This signing is more a stop gap than anything, to let the future of the team get valuable experience in the AHL. This kid they got, Greg McKegg burned up the OHL last year and will play for the Marlies this season gaining valuable experience under Dallas Eakins who is a fine coach and one day will be the Leafs coach, Burke has praised the work he is doing with the Kids. Also, the Leafs are a better team with Connolly at centre on the top line rather than Bozak, it is a win/win of a signing. Talking with some Sabres fans i know, they said he is a very good penalty killer as well, which we need badly. Now, had the terms been 4 years like Cole, i would of hated this signing, but 2 years is perfect, thus Burke had to slightly overpay.
Vokoun to Washington for 1.5$/1yr deal is insane... what did FLA pay Theodore??? Like 4Million? Tomas V got short changed ... badly!

It's a bit insulting to Vokoun in a way when you look at Theodore's deal. Theo is 35 years old and he's a good back-up. In that role, he's doing well for himself and now he gets a big starting goalie type of deal from the Panthers. Sure they had to spend like crazy to reach the salary cap but that's a hell of a risk.

Also, i can't see Jose playing 55-60 games this year. With the salary he's getting, i don't think Dale Tallon wants Kevin Dineen to split the workload 50/50 with Clemmensen in front of the net. It'll be interesting to see Huberdeau plays in Florida next season and how the new guys on the team will mesh with the guys who are already and with one another.

Didn't think i'd end up putting the words "interesting" and "Florida Panthers" in the same sentence.

Hey mini Doc, can't wait to read your analysis of Burkie's great signing today. 5 million a year for a 13 goal scorer who is always injured.  :help: :help:

At least the real Doc is gone forever so now we only have to read the spewings of his little follower. Thank heaven for small mercies.

Yes a typically pathetic desperation move by the perennially clueless Toronto GM.

Connolly is always injured and even when he's healthy puts up piss-poor numbers. Last year: a crappy 13 goals and 29 assists. Maybe the Leaf Koolaid drinkers think those stats are good because they beat those of Colton "Not Bobby" Orr.

For his career, Tim "Hey man, where's the nearest hospital?" Connolly has a woeful 118 goals and 277 assists for a lacklustre total of 395 points in 627 games. To boot, he's past his prime - that is, if this stiff ever HAD a prime!

So, to sum up: 9 million dollars (!!!) for a washed-up, delicate, frequently-injured player who could never put the puck in the net and can barely pass. His assist totals sure aren't likely to improve: it's hard to pass to someone you can't SEE...and poor Timmy Boy will be TRYING to pass to the Invisible Man himself!

Buffalo didn't even make him an offer!

Timmy Boy said he's "excited". Coincidentally that was the same word "Captain" Phaneuf used when he won Burke's lottery - just like Timmy Boy, Dion (the most overrated player in the entire NHL, as voted by the NHL players themselves) fleeced Burkie out of millions and laughed all the way to the bank while playing like crap.

Meanwhile Burkie will celebrate his latest deal by doing one of his favorite things and marching in TO's latest Gay Pride parade.

And meanwhile TO's brainless followers will tout this latest aberration as a stroke of genius - just as they did when Burkie signed Giguere (aging and unhealthy), Beauchemin and Versteeg. Strangely, when Burkie DUMPED Beauchemin and Versteeg, the braindead followers praised those moves also. The witless Toronto fans think everything Burkie does is pure genius - and even when Burkie himself (!) belatedly realizes that they were the moves of a bonehead, his Koolaid drinkers still can't put 2 and 2 together. No wonder the crappy team hasn't even made it to the finals in 44 years (soon to be officially 45).

A steal for Washington. Vokoun has long been one of the league's most dependable (and most underrated!) goalies.

Should we use his own usual expression 'Good riddance !' :)
Nah ! I'd be an hypocrite since I liked to pick on Doc more than Igna and Merlot !

I'm with Evil about both Connolly and Cole.
Feel bad of not being on Gohabsgo side on this.

But Gohabsgo usually knows more about the Habs than me so anyway.

I think it's going to be fun to watch Archambault and Beaulieu with the Habs though.

Burke commits highway robbery, again

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=370797

What this comes down to is Burke just fleeced the Preds so they have room to sign Shea Weber long term, but in the process, the Leafs get a young big Dman who many project will be a top 4 dman for years to come in Franson. Matthew L is just a salary dump by the Preds and if he regains his form after a severe concussion, he will make this trade even more of a one sided deal. If he cant play, the Leafs will not be hampered by his cap hit since they can put him on long term injured reserve. Its a Win/Win

So far in the last 2 weeks, Burke has added to a team who grew by leaps and bounds the last 40 games of last season, a pmd in Liles (we lost that when kaberle got shipped out to boston), an upgrade on Bozak with Connolly, and now a HUGE upgrade on the Blueline over former wings garbage, Brett Lebda. The Leafs have got better, not worse and have not stood still or gotten worse like alot of teams have so far this offseason.

Gonna be fun seeing the teenie weenie habs trying to penetrate the blue line against the Twin towers (Aulie/Franson, both 6'5) and Two absolute Studs in Phaneuf/Schenn come Octboer 6th at the ACC. I have a feeling Burke isnt done yet either, hearing Komiserak might be on his way out.

The quote below is from a nashville fan on HFBoards regarding the trade with the Leafs, i thought it was hilarious so i just had to post it for the "chuckle" effect

"And knowing that Burke is probably dancing naked right now pisses me off 100000 times more"

Correction: My GM is not Pierre Gauthier, it's the great Kenny Holland.

And if you forced me to pick a second GM as "my GM" it would be the great Stevie Yzerman.

If you asked me to pick the WORST GM in the NHL it would be a toss-up between Burkie and Bryan Murray. Nah, on second thought, even Bryan Murray isn't THAT bad!

Live and learn: we now know that naked dancing is permitted at Toronto's Gay Pride parade.

Somehow someway, hearing you say how bad Burke is, is music to my ears... credible, you...NOT! I just wanna see what you come up with next once the Leafs make the playoffs this season and become a force in years to come... somehow i have a feeling ole cairo will vanish into the sunset. lol

You DO realise, I hope, that it was BURKE who signed BOTH Lebda and Komi as free agents (and as usual greatly overpaid both).

Funny: I'm sure when he SIGNED these two losers you were bragging about what brilliant moves Burkie had made. Now, long after both signings have been revealed to be COLOSSAL ERRORS you are typIcally praising your lamebrained overrated GM - exactly like you did with the failed Beauchemin and Versteeg experiments.

Also, as usual, you are bragging about all the great moves and about how the Leafs WILL do this and WILL do that - just like you have been doing for the last three years. Strangely though, you have not bragged about Leaf RESULTS at the END of each of Burkie's three years as TO's GM - perhaps because at the END of each of those three years the woeful Leafs occupied their usual position: OUT of the playoffs and near the BASEMENT of the NHL standings.

Aha: the same old, sad, tired PRE-season boast. And at the END of the season after yet another tank job by Canada's National Embarrassment, I'm sure you'll again be talking about how the sad sack Leafs are going in the right direction, how it's "finally Burke's team", and how NEXT year will be better. Play that funky music Leaf Boy - even though the grooves on the record are awfully worn out by now.

Oh and by the way, I won't "vanish into the sunset" - I wouldn't want to run into your departed buddy Holliday. Now THERE is someone who vanished into the sunset - making the SHADE here a lot more palatable!

Burke once asked a famous and very successful gm in sports as he was moving his way up to greatness, "what do you do if you make a bad signing, a mistake" ...... Answer: Correct them, as soon as possible. (which he has done with the few mistakes he has made, everyone makes them, nobody is perfect) This is what makes Burke a great GM... he has balls, is a risk taker and thats the only way you acheive success in life. Any teams fanbase would love to have Burke if their team was bad and needed to be turned around, and the hate just proves that and just makes Leafs fans smile all the more. :D

Btw, i think what Burke has done after the very little time he has been here is nothing short of amazing, he has stockpiled the farm with talent, he has changed the attitude in the dressing room and he has put the Leafs on a path for success for years to come. it doesnt happen overnight and when he got here, he had NOTIHNG to work with, but somehow he has built a young hungry competitive team that was top 5 in the league the second half of the season and a 100 point team based on a full season. Todays trade was another HUGE piece of the puzzle by adding another Huge 6'5 young dman with a world of talent to the already big tough nasty blueline we already have. I wonder if markov will survive even his first shift on Oct 6th. Why dont you meet me at the Acc to see my Leafs and your habs the first game of the season and i will even let you buy me a beer?

Doc has not vanished, and in fact, he might be closer than you think, lol. And trust me, the day will come that you will have to give props to ole Burkie, and sooner than you think, but we both know you will bawk bawk out like a typical habs fan, and continue to live in the past like only habs fans can do. Typical., but OH SO Expected!

1. They are not MY Habs. In case you haven't been able to figure it out, MY team is the Wings.

2. Thanks, but I don't think I'd like to see you drinking even a single beer - you're scary enough when you're sober.

3. Ho hum. As usual you are defending Burkie's horrible errors - although to give you credit where it's due, at least you are FINALLY admitting that they ARE errors. Bravo to you for that.

4. Ho hum again. As usual you are predicting greatness for your inept squad. Haven't 44 years of COMPLETE HUMILIATION and FAILURE taught you anything? Haven't the LAST THREE YEARS of LOSERDOM taught you not to shoot off your mouth before the season starts, only to look ridiculous when your heroes fail yet again?
