I still think Rene Bourque will get the axe, but who knows....a combination of other players such as Francis Bouillion, George Parros and maybe Ryan White could also be waived and sent down. .

I would tend to think these 4 guys will have some trouble sleeping tonight.......Bourque, Boulion, Parros and White. All of them have to be wondering, will it be me?????????????? Has to be very stressful to be one of the bottom guys on a pro team's roster. Sort of like the 25th guy on a baseball team. When the Yankees have a guy come off the DL everyone pretty much knows who will get waived or designated for assignment because in baseball you only carry a certain number of players at each position, but in hockey lines can be interchanged, so anything is possible and more necks can possibly feel the blade of the axe.

Who will be having their last drinks in Montreal tonight? I also read Lars Eller might be traded.

 GREAT Game tonight in NYC between the Rangers and Leafs! Bozak was huge as was Kessel on the GWG in Overtime. A super strong game by the Leafs D and especially from Jonathan "Big Game" Bernier! Leafs take over 3rd in the East. Man oh man if these 2 teams meet in the playoffs, what a series it will be.

"Delay of Game" Bernier did save them (as he has done so many times this season) and enable them to get a win in overtime for their first victory in their 4 games after the Olympics, but I certainly don't think we can say the Leafs D played "a super strong game" when they were...as usual... badly outshot.

Huh???? That's not how it works. A team can pay part of a player's salary (like Nashville is doing with Dubnyk) when they trade him to another team, but that player's cap amount still counts fully on his new team's salary cap structure. Therefore, Tomas Vanek's $4.983's cap amount fully goes under Montreal's cap.

Actually that is how it works however I was wrong about the 4 million.

Buffalo retained about 1.4 million which didn't count on the Islanders cap space but still counts on theirs. When the Islanders trade him to Montreal (without retaining anything), the reduced cap amount (approx. 5.7 million) is prorated based on the maximum number of days he can play.

That's why Montreal still had over $600K in cap space at the close of the deadline.

I think Sather sent a message today

I wish he got more in return

St Louis requested the trade to NY..it was the only place he would waive his no trade, supposedly

Sather can redeem himself by signing Callahan in the offseason

Stranger things have happened:rolleyes:

Bad day in Rangerland, but at least we aren't Islander fans

Best Regards

Vancouver is getting destroyed in Big D tonight. So, who gets fired first, Torts or Gillis?

Torts signed a multi-year contract with the Canucks. Nobody could figure out that one, considering many believed at the time Tortorella would never be hired in the NHL again. He'll cost the owners a bundle if he ever gets fired. Personally, i think it's time for Gillis to be shown the door. His handling of the team has been a mess & i lay a good part of the blame (re: Luongo/Kesler) solely on his shoulders.

There are captains of every NHL team aren't there?

Not always. Montreal was without a captain for a year or so until the arrival of Brian Gionta. Don't be surprised if they do not spend part of next season without a captain if Gionta isn't re-signed. Some teams have been known to rotate captains throughout a season. The Boston Bruins didn't have a captain for a few years back in the early 70's when they started to be known as one of the best teams in the league again. Johnny Bucyk was the unofficial captain for several years.

I agree. I lump Gillis in with Burke, Nonis and Garth Snow - all spiritual descendants of Mike Milbury.

I see this article on Stamkos being named captain yesterday but to me being captain is not that big of an honor.

Perhaps not a BIG honor but it is still an honor. The captain is usually a very respected player. Just look at the current and recent captains of some teams:

Detroit: Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Yzerman
Chicago: Toews
Pittsburgh: Crosby, Lemieux, Jagr, Ron Francis
Boston: Chara, Joe Thornton
TBay: Stamkos, St. Louis, Lecavalier
Washington: Ovechkin

We could go back further and see names like Howe, Lindsay, Abel, Delvecchio, Red Kelly, Flash Hollett (all on the Wings), Newsy Lalonde, Toe Blake, Bill Durnan, the Rocket, the Pocket Rocket, Beliveau, Doug Harvey, Cournoyer, Serge Savard, Gainey, Carbonneau (all on the Habs), Gretzky and Messier on the Oilers, Jagr, Messier, Leetch, Espo, Park, Camille Henry, Bathgate (all on the Rangers), Mikita and Pilote on the Hawks, Bourque, Middleton, Bucyk, Milt Schmidt, Dit Clapper (all on the Bruins), Sakic and Peter Stastny on the Lanche/Nords. Even the Leafs had some good captains in the past: Sundin, Sittler, Keon, George Armstrong, Ted Kennedy, Syl Apps.
