Now a 5 team race for the final two spots with the NJD now in the hunt and statistically ahead of the Leafs !

Saturday should be interesting. A DET win over TOR, along with CBJ, WAS and NJD wins should knock down the Leafs probability close to ZERO !!!

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern_ChanceWillMakePlayoffs.html

Won: DET, CBJ :D

OT point : NJD :thumb:

Loss: WAS :(

Leafs: 6.48% chance of making playoffs !

Interesting comparison:

Boston has picked up 19 of a possible 20 points in its last 10 games.

Toronto has picked up TWO of a possible 20 points in its last 10 games.

mR. cAIRO,

In the last 16 games the Boston Bruins are 15-1 picking up 31 out of a possible 32 points. Yes, the Claude Julien philosophy of multi-line talent depth versus talent loading of some lines while other lines are underpowered is working wonders. Players like Carl Soderberg have developed very well and now Jarome Iginla has come back to form.

If the Bruins stay healthy they are going to be a daunting force in the playoffs.

The Leafs...they are trying very hard to keep up with tradition...LOSING!!! Like their real life namesake...Leafs die at the end of the season each year. :D

Cheers,

Merlot

How did Toronto go from 5th to 10th so fast? Just a couple weeks ago they projected to play Montreal 1st round of the playoffs and now they are out of the playoffs. What the hell happened?

Here are just some of the reasons:

They played down to their potential.

They did what they almost always do: namely to collapse at the end of the season.

Reality set in: they have been outplayed and outshot in almost all their games all season long (as even Randy Carlyle noticed right from the beginning) but were often saved by their goaltenders. Recently their goaltenders have given up on saving them.

Dion Phaneuf's play has been worse than usual in the last little while.

The system Carlyle uses is not working.

The players are unwilling to play a team game.

Two words: David Clarkson.

Phil Kessel (3 words): Hot and cold.

Joffrey Lupul: Missing in action.

Congrats to the Wings on today's victory over a good team, Stevie Y's Tampa Bay Lightning.

Nice win for the Monster, who actually did better than Ben Bishop.

And no surprise as the league's hottest scorer had another goal. Goose has now scored in 8 of his last 9 games.

Recent acquisition David Legwand is fitting in well, chipping in with another goal and assist.

Detroit is now 4 points ahead of TO and still has a game in hand. Of course, TO is not Detroit's competition - that would be Columbus and Washington.

Just keep it up boys, and hope that Pav and Henk are back for the playoffs to play with Goose, Tatar and all the other kids. That would leave only ONE worry (hint: initials JH).

As I have stated throughout the year, the Leafs apparent early season success was a mirage - an illusion. They were (and are) constantly being outshot and had to rely on fortuitous goaltending and 'loser points' to stay in the hunt - this is not sustainable over the entire season. Long term contracts given to Phanuef, Kessel and Clarkson will haunt this organization for years.

Exactly correct.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Hockey

A happy 86th birthday to the one and only Gordie Howe, universally acknowledged as one of the 3 greatest hockey players ever.

6 Hart Trophies.
6 Art Ross Trophies.
4 Stanley Cups.
First all-time in career NHL games played.
Second all-time in career NHL goals.
Third all-time in career NHL points.
Only player to play in FIVE decades.
Top 5 in NHL scoring race TWENTY YEARS IN A ROW!
Third player ever to score over 100 points in a season - and at the age of 41!!!!

Wings over Bruins 3-2:smile: Must admit that I wouldn't have predicted that but I'll gladly take it.

What I would have predicted, however, DID occur: yet another goal for the league's hottest player. Goose is unstoppable!

These refs don't get enough credit

Agreed. If you can find it - which could be difficult - you'd probably enjoy Vern Buffey's book "Black and White and Never Right".

Good for Don - nice to see that he was able to finish his career right where he wanted: at the Joe for a Wings victory.
