EVERY TEAM and their FANBASE would LOVE to have a big, tough, physical team

Maybe true for the typical retarded redneck fans...

When their home teams are eliminated, most of the fan support talented teams like Pitts or Chicago... So that's probably the kind of team they envy.

About Leafs, I wouldnt put them in the same category than Rangers nor Ottawa, they are not so boring to watch. Moreover, they are clearly phisicaly strong but unfortunetly they show they dont have the strong mental of the tough teams you seem to admir (Rangers, Ottawa, Boston, LA...)..

Taro Akebono would be my goalie for sure... I would start with Crosby but he would need Chara as a perpetual bodyguard, Ovie the loser on the bench...

The fact nobody think Crosby's carreer will be long show that there is a prob with NHL rules about violence...

Yeah, cause look how well Bobby Orr did in Chicago. You NEVER start with fragile, damaged goods.

You are mentally strong or you are not, no matter how old you are, look at Nadal who is the best exemple of what it is to be strong in his head, he was already solid at 17...

So given the opportunity at this point in their careers, who do you start your franchise with. Sidney or Ovie?

I honestly wouldn't want to be in the position to have to choose.

Sid, not even close.

Ovie is a good goal scorer (mainly a PP guy), but has never shown that he is more than a one dimensional player (a great one dimension to have). Sid is a center and is amazing in all facets of the game. Ovie can be shut down with the right game plan, Sid cannot.

I don't think there is one GM in the league that wouldn't start a franchise with Sid over Ovie.

Tennis is a one person, or individual sport, hockey is a TEAM sport and your teammates can rally around to help the weaker links aka youth, of the team....... not even a question........ hahahaah tennis vs Hockey ... good one, :)

I could have taken the same exemple in soccer with French team around 2000 or Handball french team that dominated their sports and were solid mentally from the start, even when they were young, they acquired more experience and techniq with the years, but they were strong mentally from the start... Real champions are born with a winner program in their head..

You're 100% correct. And if you're looking at hockey, you could take the great Steve Yzerman as just one of many examples of great YOUNG players and great YOUNG leaders.

People who use the word "youth" to defend losing are just making excuses for ineptitude and are helping to continue a tradition of failure. That's why some teams (such as Detroit, Montreal, and New Jersey) have long-established tradiotions of excellence while some others fail year after year after year.

Interessant to notice that the 4 teams that lead their series in 1/4 are the 4 last Stanley Cup winners...

* Btw what is the real and fundamental difference between the 2 hockey threads ? lol

All even after two games in Chitown.
Dominating game two performance by the great Detroit Red Wings.

Character, determination and skill - a tough combination to beat...even for the NHL's best team of this season.

Anyone who watched should now know why Zetterberg is Gretzky's favorite player of the past decade.

And what about Pavel, the most skilled hockey player in the world? Well golly gee, Pav was "only" (ha ha) 65% on faceoffs!

Wouldn't it be funny that Wings win this one ?

They are the team which we weren't sure if they could make the playoffs this time and yet they are doing fine so far.

One thing is sure, Detroit always give their fans a good show !

Hello BOYZ, :D

http://bostonherald.com/sports/bruins_nhl/bruins_insider/2013/05/game_3_final_bruins_2_rangers_1

THIRD PERIOD

Hockey is all about bounces and the Bruins got the biggest of the game. Gregory Campbell took a shot from the point that was deflected in front by Shawn Thornton. From there, physics took over. Thornton's deflection popped off the helmet of Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, bounced behind him but somehow didn't cross the goal line. Luckily for the B's, Daniel Paille skated around and stuffed in the bouncing puck to give the B's a 2-1 lead with 3:31 remaining. Lundqvist never knew where the puck was and wore an incredulous look after the goal.

Lundqvist was outstanding with 32 saves, but failed to come up with the biggest ones when he needed them most. Tuukka Rask didn't have as many spectacular saves, but his 23 got the job done for the B's. The Bruins now hold a 3-0 advantage in the series and have a chance to close it out Thursday night at MSG.

With the way Henrik Lundqvist had been playing, it was clear that the Bruins would need to really work to get a puck past the Rangers goalie. Three minutes into the third period, the B's finally got their first goal on a shot by Johnny Boychuk from the right point. The Bruins fourth line created the scoring chance by bringing the energy. Daniel Paille took the rebound from a Shawn Thornton shot and found Boychuk at the blue line. Boychuk then fired a shot that Lundqvist struggled to pick up through a sea of bodies that included screens by Thornton and Gregory Campbell.

What a terrific In-The-Right-Place-At-The-Right-Time win for the Bruins to go up 3-0 against the Rangers. The word before the game was Julien would stick with a "winning formula" by staying with the three rookie defensemen who have done so well even though Seidenberg and Redden were supposedly ready to return tonight. The result, an impressive gutsy victory.

Why couldn't a genius like Burke find talent like Hamilton, Bartkowski, and Krug?

It looks like the Bruins in no more than 5.

Cheers,

Merlot
