Very risky trade. The Isles only get fair value if they make the playoffs & manage to re-sign Tomas Vanek. I'm surprised they had to surrender Matt Moulson in the trade. I figure he would have been a key piece to have if they wanted to make the playoffs. Giving Buffalo a first and a second for Vanek was plenty, in my opinion. Heck, even just a second might have been enough.
Now Buffalo will likely shop Moulson around, along with most of their veterans incl. Ryan Miller.

Get used to what? The Leafs being in first place in October? I believe they were in first place in October just last year.
Guess what rumples? There was no hockey being played in October last season. :lol:

Something unbelievable happened
This trade, in my opinion, nearly equals the infamous Wayne Gretky trade. It changed the fate of two franchises. One franchise's fortunes immediately turned around & it has been contending since. The other franchise was hurt badly for the first few years & took nearly 5 years to recover.

This trade, in my opinion, nearly equals the infamous Wayne Gretky trade. It changed the fate of two franchises. One franchise's fortunes immediately turned around & it has been contending since. The other franchise was hurt badly for the first few years & took nearly 5 years to recover.
And one of the franchises has a recent Cup win plus a second recent appearance in the finals, while the other is a habitual disappointment come playoff time and has never won a Cup. Of course the recent Cup winner and finalist also made several other moves, including obtaining one of the league's top goaltenders in a virtual steal from a Canadian franchise.
What is it with those Avalanche goalies always getting caught up in those domestic disputes with their spouses?? First Patrick, now Semyon!! Semyon doesn't have a Ray Bourque around to bail him out this time!
I am enjoying it. A lot. And if past history is a true indicator, then that's great news since the Leafs are #2 in the most Stanley Cups won. They actually do have a great history! :thumb:
p.s. For the Doc, the glass is always half-full & never half-empty. He rarely looks back at the past. He lives in the present and looks forward to the future. Life is great!
Hang on to that past (#2 in Stanley Cup wins ) , Mr live in the present and look to the future.
What I was talking about past history is the fact that the leafs look good early in the season and then fail miserably.
In other words, it is still early, and life won't feel great if and when they fail once (once is a funny word here ) more.

There's quite a difference between PAST history and ANCIENT history.
It's true that the Leafs HAD a great history....but it all ended in 1967, almost half a century ago. Unfortunately for the Leafs, their players since those halcyon days have been far inferior to the likes of Bower, Keon, Mahovlich, Horton, Stanley, Kelly, Armstrong, etc.
Since then, their zero Cups and zero appearances in the Finals, coupled with their paucity of appearances even in the playoffs have made their post-67 history the antithesis of "great".
Strange. I remember the Leafs playing very well all season long a year ago, easily making the playoffs, and then being one goal away from shocking Boston in the playoffs.
But i do remember the habs starting great, then faltering miserably in the final month or two of the regular season, and then be totally embarrassed by Ottawa in the first round of the playoffs.

Like i said, Joey, i don't preoccupy myself much with the past. I live for the present, then the future, and nothing else. That is my motto in life, which includes to enjoy life as much as possible & make the most out of every opportunities you get since life is incredibly short.

I was referring to the year before last year's SHORTENED season. The season of 2011-2012. Do you remembering or would
rather forget.They started great and then went downhill sometime around February and then falling short in making the playoffs. Sorry for bringing it up. This year is a 82 game season and that is what most call ' a season '.
